Sturgis junior girls bring home first tournament win

The SCHS junior girls basketball team brought home their first tournament win by defeating the Hudson Bay home team on January 8-9. The two-day tournament hosted by Hudson Bay featured five teams plus the host team.

The SCHS junior girls basketball team brought home their first tournament win by defeating the Hudson Bay home team on January 8-9. The two-day tournament hosted by Hudson Bay featured five teams plus the host team.

            Team members were: Sierra Karcha, Allison Peterson, Tiara Yaglensky, Paige Hansen, Alyssa Mirva, Alexis Vidomski, Kyla Tomas Mackayla Gregory, Sierra Meroniuk, Audrey Vargas, Shanae Olson, Eloise Vicente and Kylie Babiuk. Brad Cameron was the coach.

            Teams who participated were: Kamsack A, Kamsack B, Hudson Bay, The Pas, Naicam and Sturgis. The action kicked off on Friday night with the Sturgis girls beating Kamsack B with a final score of 25-17. Sturgis also took on Naicam but came up short, recording 21-12 loss.

            On Saturday, Sturgis defeated the Kamsack A team with a final score of 20-10.The win advanced Sturgis to the A-side final where the girls took on Hudson Bay.

            In an action packed game, the Sturgis team came out on top and defeated Hudson Bay 24-11 win to capture the first place tournament plaque.
