On May 12 the Langenburg Indians came to Al Sapieha Field for the Supers home opener, said Greg Andreychuk, player/manager.

The weather was a bit chilly but the Supers defence was stone cold as five costly errors turned what likely would have been a victory into a disheartening 6-4 loss.

Things started off well as the Supers scored two runs in the bottom of the first, as Travis Mentanko and Kholton Shewchuk each drove in a run, said Andreychuk. Unfortunately, the tide began to turn after an error led to a Langenburg run in the third, followed by two errors in the fourth inning which led to four Indians runs.

The Supers scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull within one run, but the defence let the team down once again in the top of the seventh as another run was scored as the result of an error.

Trailing by two heading into the final inning, the Supers’ first two hitters reached base via the walk to start a potentially promising inning. Evan Rostotski then drilled a line drive into center field, said Andreychuk. As Indians centre fielder Tyler Hartung dove, the ball went in and out of his glove. Unfortunately, by the time baserunners realized the ball had not been caught, the Indians were able to quickly throw the ball back into the infield and tag out two Supers runners to effectively kill the rally.

It was just not meant to be for the Supers on this night.

Colby Parachoniak pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up five runs (only one earned) on four hits while striking out three, said Andreychuk. Parachoniak ended up taking the loss. His brother Logan and Kholton Shewchuk each pitched in relief to finish out the game.

Offensively the Supers had five hits with Greg Andreychuk picking up two doubles and two runs scored. Logan Parachoniak had a double and a run batted in (RBI), while Travis Mentanko had a single, an RBI and a run scored. Kholton Shewchuk continued his hot hitting with a single and two sacrifice flies. Evan Rostotski scored the other run.

Matt Poier and Nick Carlson had two hits each for Langenburg, said Andreychuk. Dane Kobylko was the winning pitcher, while Aaron Haas got the save.

With the loss the Supers record falls to 2-1 for the season.

The Supers had a second game slated for the week, but the weatherman had other ideas, said Andreychuk. The game scheduled for May 17 in Yorkton against the Yankees was postponed due to the cold temperatures, and will be rescheduled to a later date.
