The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 23 calls during the week of October 15 to October 22, some of which included: two traffic offences, one municipal bylaw, two harassing communications/uttering threats, five other provincial statutes, two other criminal code violations, two thefts under $5,000, two possessions of stolen goods, one mischief, one fraud and five other offences.
Preeceville gas and dash
On October 15, Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a gas and dash in Preeceville. The initial complaint was investigated and it was determined to be a non-criminal matter and the gas was later paid for.
Stolen trailer
Canora/Sturgis RCMP stopped a vehicle pulling a trailer with no tail lights and no license plate on the trailer on October 16. The trailer had been reported stolen from the Key First Nation. The driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property. The trailer was seized by RCMP and the driver was released to attend court.
911 hang-up
Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a 911 hang-up call on October 16 at a residence in the RM of Keys. RCMP attended promptly and confirmed there was no emergency and determined that a child was playing with the phone. The RCMP would like to remind the public to educate their children that 911 is for emergencies only and that valuable resources are tied up when 911 hang-ups are priority calls for the RCMP.
Snowmobile collision
On October 20, Canora/Sturgis members were dispatched to a snowmobile collision in the RM of Invermay. The driver of the snowmobile received non life-threatening injuries.
COVID test complaint
Canora/Sturgis RCMP were contacted by a resident in the Canora area on October 20 complaining of being victimized from receiving a COVID-19 test. The complainant was told to follow up with the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
Ukraine seed shipment
On October 21, Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a call from a Canora resident advising that they received unsolicited seeds from Ukraine in the mail. Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is asking people who receive unrequested shipments of seeds to contact their regional office immediately and hang on to the packaging and contents until they hear from an Inspector. Preeceville fraud
A resident of Preeceville received a phone call from a male who was attempting to defraud her on October 21 and contacted the Canora/Sturgis RCMP. After the complainant refused to co-operate the fraudster threatened to harm the complainant’s husband.
Public assistance needed
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP requires public assistance in solving the following crime. Between the night of October 9, and the morning of October 10, the SaskPower yard in Sturgis was broken into and items were stolen. Some items were located abandoned on Sixth Avenue Northeast in Preeceville the following day.
