The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 47 calls during the week of June 17 to June 24, some of which included: two traffic accidents, 19 provincial traffic offences, five other provincial statutes, one mischief, two thefts, one fraud, one break and enter, and 10 other incidents.
Overdue rental
On June 18, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP recovered an overdue rental car from Fort McMurray that had been ditched in the bush in the RM of Good Lake. The rental car was towed and returned to the rental agency.
Suspect investigated
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a break and enter and theft on June 12 to a residence in Preeceville. Police have identified a suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
Structure fire
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP assisted the Sturgis and Canora Fire Departments with a structure fire in the RM of Buchanan on June 22. There were no injuries reported but the home sustained a significant amount of damage.
Erratic motorcycle driver
On June 23, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a male driving a motorcycle erratically in Preeceville. Police will be following up with driver to ensure future compliance with rules of the road.
Splash Park graffiti
The town of Canora reported graffiti on June 23 at the Chase Kraynick Splash Park in Canora. If you have any information about this incident, please contact the Canora RCMP or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers anonymously.
Deck thieves
The Canora RCMP received a complaint that items were stolen off of a deck at a residence in the RM of Good Lake on June 23. With the assistance of the complainant, police were able to identify a suspect and the property was recovered. If you have been a victim of theft and have not reported it, please call the Canora RCMP and do so. When a theft complaint is made to the police, a record is created and the property is documented on the file. If no police record exists and suspected stolen property is recovered, the task of proving the property was stolen or returning it to its rightful owner becomes very difficult.
Skirmish with RCMP
On June 23, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a disturbance at a residence in Sturgis. Police attended and found two occupants in the home that had been drinking and were not getting along. During the investigation one of the occupants somehow lost all of his clothes and refused to comply with directions of police. The male became agitated and attempted to assault members. After a short struggle, the male was arrested without incident or injury and lodged in cells for the night. The male was charged with Assaulting a Police Officer and released for Court in Yorkton.
