Canora/Sturgis RCMP activity report

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 34 calls during the week of June 24 to June 30, some of which included: three traffic accidents, four provincial traffic offences, six other provincial statutes, two harassments/threats, one theft, three mischiefs

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 34 calls during the week of June 24 to June 30, some of which included: three traffic accidents, four provincial traffic offences, six other provincial statutes, two harassments/threats, one theft, three mischiefs, and 10 other incidents.

Unsafe driving

On June 25, Canora/Sturgis RCMP members responded to a complaint of a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and passing when it was unsafe to do so on Highway No. 9. Members made patrols, however the vehicle was not located.

Deer collision

Canora/Sturgis RCMP members responded to a complaint on June 25 of a deer being struck by a motor vehicle on Highway No. 9. No injuries were sustained to the driver; however, the vehicle was not driveable. 

Unwelcome customer

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a complaint of a male who was causing a disturbance at a business in Preeceville on June 26. Upon being asked to vacate the premises, the unwelcomed male left the business without further issue.

Intoxicated wanderer

On June 27, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a male subject who appeared to be intoxicated and was walking down a grid road without a shirt or shoes. Patrols were made in the area, however, the subject was not located.

Arrest on warrants

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP assisted the Kamsack RCMP on June 27 in locating a male who had fled from police. RCMP members located and arrested the male who had warrants for his arrest. The male was also charged with resisting a police officer and having in his possession a prohibited weapon while unauthorized.

Lottery win fraud

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report of fraud from a complainant who was told that she won a vehicle via a popular lottery on June 28. The complainant was asked to provide her banking information in exchange for her prize. It is important to be aware of unsolicited calls where the caller is asking for personal information such as your birthdate, your Social Insurance Number (SIN), and your credit card or banking information. It is also important to remember that you cannot win a prize from a lottery that you did not enter, nor purchase a ticket for. Scams and frauds can be reported by calling the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre toll free at 1-888-495-8501.

Power meter vandalism

On June 29, Canora/Sturgis RCMP members responded to a complaint of vandalism where a power meter was dismantled at a business in Good Spirit. Upon speaking with the complainant, it was discovered that a suspicious male was seen crawling through the grass in the same area where this occurrence took place. Police continue to investigate the incident, however anyone with any information pertaining to this vandalism is asked to please contact the Canora RCMP Detachment at (306)563-4700.

Stolen trailer

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP members received a complaint on June 29 of a stolen trailer from a property in Preeceville. Members quickly located the trailer and charged a Yorkton man with possession of property obtained by crime. 

Alarm difficulties

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP members responded to a duress alarm coming from a residence in Preeceville on June 30. Police learned that the key holder was on site and having troubles with the alarm system, and that there was no emergency. Alarms are a great tool for protecting property and reporting emergencies. If you have an alarm, please ensure the alarm company has your updated contact information so that police can investigate the alarm and contact the correct property representative. 

Sudden death

On June 30, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP assisted Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with a report of a sudden death of a 59-year-old female at a local business in Canora. Through a joint investigation between Canora RCMP and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, preliminary indication is that no foul play is suspected in relation to the death. No further information will be provided at this time.
