EAST CENTRAL — The North East Outreach and Support Services (NEOSS) annual fundraiser “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” has been postponed, and a new date has yet to be selected.

The walk, which would have been held in Tisdale on May 26, would have seen, men walk one mile in four-inch high-heeled shoes as a public statement of support for victims of domestic, sexualized and gender violence.

Other genders are also welcome to walk in support of victims or the men who walk.

The event is one of the NEOSS’ largest annual fundraisers.

“We’re going to see what happens with the COVID plan and how things come back into play,” said Louise Schweitzer, NEOSS’ executive director. “We’re hoping for the fall, but no definite plans yet.”

NEOSS is currently exploring the possibility of a virtual Walk a Mile, but details are still being looked at.

Schweitzer said “most definitely” the postponement of the fundraiser will affect the organization.

“It’s always a struggle as a non-profit to make ends meet, but at this point we felt the safety of our community was more important to us as an organization than the dollars. We hope and trust as the economy re-strengthens, at the end of the COVID pandemic challenge, that our communities will be able to assist us knowing that we put our community first.”

NEOSS continues to operate through telephone counselling at 306-752-9464.
