The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 34 calls during the week of September 24 to October 1, some of which included: seven traffic offences, one municipal bylaw, one impaired driving, nine other provincial statutes, one other federal statute, two assaults, five mischiefs, two frauds, one break-and-enter, and five other offences.
Canora assault
On September 25, Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a complaint of an assault in the Town of Canora. Police investigated the matter and have charged a male with assault causing bodily harm.
Preeceville theft
Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a complaint of break-and-enter on September 26. Police learned a residence in Preeceville was broken into and tools were stolen.
Unlawful CERB payments
On September 28, Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint from a residence of Canora that CERB (Canada Emergency Response Benefit) payments were unlawfully made to a third party using the complainant’s social insurance number and personal information. Police would like to remind the public not to provide personal information to anyone and if you suspect you’re being taken advantage of by a friend, family member or a complete stranger, please contact your local RCMP Detachment.
Preeceville RM collision
A complaint of a motor vehicle collision in the RM of Preeceville was received on September 30 by Canora/Sturgis RCMP. Police attended the scene and found the driver responsible for the collision was impaired by alcohol. A 53-year-old male from Regina was arrested and charged with operation of a conveyance while impaired by alcohol over 80mg per cent and operation of a conveyance while impaired by alcohol.
Sturgis gunshot
On October 1, Canora/Sturgis RCMP initiated an investigation following a report to the Yorkton RCMP that someone suffered non-life threatening injuries from a gunshot wound. The incident was reported to have occurred in the Sturgis area and was the result of unsafe handling and storage of a firearm. Police continue to investigate.
