The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 36 calls during the week of August 27 to September 2, some of which included: one traffic accident, eight traffic offenses, one impaired offense, eight other provincial statutes, one other criminal offence, two other statutes, one sexual offence, three assaults, one theft over $5,000, five mischiefs, two frauds and six other incidents.
Hit and run
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP members are investigating an incident of hit and run/mischief that occurred to a vehicle on Lakeview Drive in Crystal Lake. The incident occurred on August 6 between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. A green Chevrolet Equinox sustained damage to the rear driver side door.
Camper mischief
On August 27, Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of an unknown person who was going through the storage compartment of a camper trailer in the RM of Good Lake. A loud truck was heard driving away.
Canora impaired driver
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a report of an impaired driver on August 27. The vehicle was located driving on Second Avenue East in Canora. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver was found to be intoxicated. The driver was arrested for impaired driving and was later released from custody.
Internet scam
On August 28, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a scam where the complainant received text messages from an apparent co-worker to purchase Google Play cards totaling hundreds of dollars. The scammer was very convincing due to the fact information was taken off the Internet to impersonate others. The complainant wised up to the scam and was able to avoid being victimized. Police investigated the complaint and learned the phone number used could not be traced.
Weapon altercation
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated an assault with a weapon complaint on August 28. Police learned the victim sustained minor injuries following a brief altercation with another male. The investigation continues.
Fight in Canora
On August 29, Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of people fighting outside a residence in Canora. Police attended and helped resolve an outstanding issue between a landlord and former tenants.
Highway collision
Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a report of a collision at the junction of Highway No. 9 and Highway No. 5 on August 31. The collision was minor and the investigation continues.
Firearm in field
On September 1, Canora/Sturgis RCMP seized a firearm that was found in a field in the RM of Sliding Hills. Police continue to investigate the origins of the firearm.
Service Canada scam
Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a scam involving someone impersonating Service Canada on September 1.
