The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 32 calls during the week of October 23 to October 29, some of which included: two traffic accidents, 10 traffic offences, three other provincial statutes, two municipal bylaws, two other federal statutes, one assault, two thefts under $5,000, one theft over $5,000, one mischief, two frauds and six other incidents.
Preeceville missing vehicle
On October 22, Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a complaint of a stolen vehicle in Preeceville. Through investigation it was determined that the owner forgot where they parked their vehicle.
Impaired driver
Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a complaint of a vehicle in the ditch on Highway No. 9 by Preeceville on October 22. The driver of the vehicle showed signs of impairment and was issued a 72-hour driving suspension.
Hostage call
A male from Canora called 911 on October 23, reporting his neighbour was holding his wife and kids hostage. Police investigated the matter and determined the complaint to be unfounded and that alcohol was a contributing factor in the initial complaint.
Deer collision
On October 24, a Canora/Sturgis RCMP member struck a deer on Highway No. 9 north of Canora. The police vehicle sustained minor damages and the officer was not injured. The RCMP would like to remind the public to watch out for animals on the road.
Preeceville assault
Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to an assault complaint outside a business in the town of Preeceville on October 24.
Livestock on highway
Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report on October 25 of a horse and calf on Highway No. 5 west of Buchanan. RCMP responded and were able to locate the owner of the animals, getting them off the highway and back into an enclosed fence.
Quarantine check
On October 27, Canora/Sturgis RCMP received an assistance request to complete a compliance check under the Quarantine Act on a traveler who had returned to Canada and was subject to the mandatory 14-day quarantine.
Payment fraud
Canora/Sturgis RCMP have been receiving numerous complaints lately about CERB (Canada Emergency Response Benefit) related frauds. Many of these complaints are from individuals who did not qualify for CERB payments but applied for the money anyway. Anyone who applied for CERB money and spent the CERB money is accountable for their actions and to the Government of Canada. Calling the police and fabricating a story will not get anyone out of paying back the money.
License plate stolen
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP is looking for the public's assistance for the following crime. On or about October 11, 2020 a Saskatchewan licence plate was stolen off of a trailer located on First Avenue Northwest in Preeceville. The suspect(s) entered the property via the back alley and took the plate from the trailer.
Theft near Canora
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP is looking for the public’s assistance with the following crime. Between the dates of October 22 and October 29 a pallet of Bag Armour, a product used for protecting grain bags, was stolen off of a flatbed trailer that was parked in a yard off Highway No. 5 in the RM of Buchanan only a few kilometers from Canora. The value of the Bag Armour is approximately $2,000.
Campaign signs stolen
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP is looking for the public’s assistance with the following crime. On October 25, multiple Mike Kwas for Mayor signs were stolen from various residences in the Town of Canora. The Canora/Sturgis RCMP are looking for the individual(s) responsible for the thefts.
