The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 75 calls during the week of February 25 to March 4, some of which included: three traffic accidents, 54 traffic offences, seven other provincial statutes, one other criminal code, one family order statute, two uttering threats, three mischiefs, one fraud, and three other incidents.
Yorkton area icy collision
On February 25, Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway No. 9 south of Yorkton. The driver lost control due to poor road conditions and drove into the ditch. There were no injuries reported and no damage to the vehicle. Alcohol was not a factor. Department of Highways was contacted to salt the highway.
Mikado dog complaint
Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint on February 27 of a dog off leash running around the community of Mikado. RCMP contacted the owner of the dog who returned the pet back home.
Deer damage
Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway No. 9 near Stenen on February 28. The driver had hit a deer and caused significant damages to the vehicle, which was towed away from the scene. There were no injuries reported and alcohol was not a factor.
Animal survives collision
On March 2, Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway No. 5 east of Mikado. The driver lost control of their vehicle due to a small animal that ran out onto the road. The vehicle ended up in the ditch with significant damages. There were no injuries reported and alcohol was not a factor. The small animal was able to run off and survived this incident.
Canora traffic stop
Yorkton traffic services completed an enforcement check stop at Highway No. 9 and Highway No. 5 in Canora on March 2. Several vehicles and semi trucks were stopped. Discretion was used in a majority of the stops and five tickets for driving offences were written.
Thefts from vehicle
On March 2, Canora/Sturgis RCMP were made aware of items being stolen out of a vehicle in Canora. The complainant later called back advising the matter had been resolved and further police assistance was not required.
Domestic dispute
Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a domestic dispute at a residence in Sturgis on March 3. Police attended and were able to calm the situation and provide advice on how to better the current living arrangements between the occupants of the home.
Flawed graffiti
On March 3, Canora Detachment received a complaint of graffiti written on a wall of a local business in Canora. Police attended and noted the message to have poor spelling and grammar.
Overstayed his welcome
Canora/Sturgis received a report on March 3 of an intoxicated naked male sleeping at a residence in Canora. Members attended and arrested the subject who was a house guest and was no longer welcome at the residence.
