The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 45 calls during the week of April 15 to April 22, some of which included: 10 provincial traffic offenses, two impaired operation offenses, eight other provincial statutes, three assaults, five thefts, one harassme

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 45 calls during the week of April 15 to April 22, some of which included: 10 provincial traffic offenses, two impaired operation offenses, eight other provincial statutes, three assaults, five thefts, one harassment/threat, one mischief, and seven other incidents.

Farm theft

On April 15, Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a break and enter at a farm yard in the RM of Keys. Several items were stolen including: a 2006 Polaris ATV, a generator, a barbecue, a bow and multiple arrows, a whipper snipper, four propane tanks and a car battery. The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the theft of these items, please contact the Canora RCMP. Your information will remain anonymous.

Domestic assault

Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint on April 15 of a domestic assault in Canora. RCMP officers obtained a warrant to enter the residence and the suspect was arrested and charged without incident. The victim sustained minor injuries from the assault. This matter is now before the courts.

Heated argument

Canora/Sturgis RCMP attended a domestic dispute complaint in Canora on April 15. RCMP officers attended and determined nothing criminal had occurred. The occupants of the residence had gotten into a verbal argument.

Fraud

On April 16, Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a fraud complaint in the RM of Preeceville. The victim had received a fraudulent cheque in the mail for $8,500. The victim did not deposit the cheque. This investigation remains ongoing.

Hungry

Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint on April 16 of a suspicious person going through the garbage bins behind the Gateway Co-Op in Canora. RCMP officers attended and spoke with the suspect who was hungry and looking for food to eat. RCMP officers purchased a bottle of water for the suspect, who was thirsty.

Impaired driver

On April 17, Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of an impaired driver heading towards Yorkton on Highway No. 9. Yorkton RCMP was called to assist in locating the suspect vehicle however the vehicle could not be located.

Medical difficulty

 Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint on April 17 of an individual who was experiencing hallucinations from the medication they were taking. RCMP attended the residence in Canora and spoke with the individual who was outside of the residence talking to a tree. Police provided assistance to ensure that the family of the individual followed up with a Doctor.

Money problem

Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a civil dispute in Sturgis on April 17. There was a disagreement between two parties regarding money owed for rent and utilities. RCMP advised both parties that it was a civil matter and to contact a lawyer.

Preeceville gunshots

On April 17, Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of gunshots being fired at a location west of Preeceville. RCMP officers attended and made extensive patrols in the area, however officers were unable to locate the person involved and did not hear any more gunshots. There were no other complaints regarding this matter.

Vehicle thefts

Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded on April 19 to a string of vehicle-related thefts in Canora. Items had been stolen from parked vehicles on McIntosh Crescent and Parker Crescent. A Semi power unit had also been stolen from Norway Road. Yorkton FIS was called to assist in processing various exhibits for fingerprints and the investigation remains ongoing. A set of keys was recovered on McIntosh Crescent which is believed to have been stolen and then dropped on the ground.  If you are missing a set of keys or have any information about the thefts, please contact the Canora Detachment or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers anonymously.

Ammunition delivery

On April 19, Canora Post Office found spent ammunition cartridges in the parcel delivery bin. It is unknown how this got there or who placed the spent ammunition in the delivery bin. Anyone missing their spent ammunition cartridges, please contact the Canora RCMP to pick them up.

Suspicion at Co-op

Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a complaint on April 19 of a suspicious person in front of the Canora Co-op gas station. RCMP attended and spoke with the female. Nothing criminal had occurred. The female appeared to have been suffering some mental health issues and was given a ride back to her residence. The female did not pose a risk to the public or herself.

Stolen ornaments

Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of stolen lawn ornaments on Evelee Avenue in Canora on April 20. The investigation remains ongoing.

Watching school

On April 20, Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a suspicious person walking on the road in front of the Canora Junior Elementary School. The suspect appeared to be intoxicated and was checking out properties. RCMP officers made patrols for the suspect but could not locate them.

Farm parts theft

Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint on April 20 of parts stolen from an agricultural machine in Preeceville. The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information regrading this theft is asked to please contact the Canora RCMP or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers anonymously.

Grass fire

On April 20, Canora/Sturgis RCMP assisted the Stenen Fire Department with a vehicle that had caused a small grass fire just outside of Stenen. The Fire Department promptly put out the fire. There was no damage to property and no injuries sustained. The fire is believed to have been caused by dry conditions in the ditch where the vehicle came to a stop after the driver was having difficulties with the brakes. No charges were laid as a result of this incident.

Rink graffiti

Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report on April 21 of the Canora Skating Rink being spray painted. Anyone who has information about this or any other crimes is asked to please contact the Canora RCMP at 563-4700 or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
