Canora/Sturgis RCMP Detachment activity report for June 4 to June 11

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 42 calls for service during the reporting period, some of which included seven traffic offenses, five Provincial Statutes, two mischiefs, two thefts, one assault, one sexual assault, one harassing communications, one arson, and one break and enter.

On June 8 the Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a complaint of a vehicle fire on Railway Avenue in Preeceville. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and police are looking into obtaining video surveillance from the area. On June 9 the Canora/Sturgis RCMP along with Canora Ambulance responded to a complaint of a male laying on the ground in his backyard in Canora. The male appeared to be in cardiac arrest, as he was not breathing and did not have a pulse. Canora Ambulance was able to utilize a defibrillator to restart the male’s heart allowing the male to breath on his own again. This male has since been released from hospital. A big shout out to the Canora Ambulance members for their quick response that lead to saving this man’s life.

In last week’s paper I advised the public regarding an adult male from Preeceville that had evaded and fled from RCMP attempting to complete a traffic stop. This same male again fled from RCMP in Humboldt on June 8 and was involving in a collision in the Sobeys parking lot. I am happy to report that the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were able to take this male into custody where he remained until his June 15 court date. This male is currently facing 19 Criminal Code charges for multiple incidents including: assault, mischief, uttering threats, along with multiple dangerous driving and flight from police charges.

On June 10 Canora/Sturgis RCMP with assistance from the Yorkton Municipal RCMP detachment executed a warrant on Parker Crescent in Canora. When members entered the residence with a warrant an adult female was taken into custody without incident when she was found hiding in the crawl space of the residence. The female is currently in custody and is facing charges for cocaine trafficking, possession of cocaine, possession of property obtained by crime and failing to attend court.
