Corn maze something new for Preeceville

The art of a corn maze is designed with the idea of challenging an individual’s mental and physical abilities as he or she navigates through the twisting maze.

The art of a corn maze is designed with the idea of challenging an individual’s mental and physical abilities as he or she navigates through the twisting maze.

"The human-size puzzle was carved into 35 acres of 10-foot tall cornstalks west of the Town of Preeceville," said Andrea Tonn, recreation director. "The maze can be roughly walked in about an hour and 15 minutes, depending on how many wrong turns you make. There are some clues in spots to help or hurt you. If you answer correctly it will take you in the right direction," she said.

The corn maze is scheduled to open August 17. August and September hours are Wednesday to Sunday afternoons with October hours to be announced later

The maze is a mixture of grain and sileage corn with seed that was donated.

"We have had many individuals and organizations that have helped make the  corn maze possible,” Tonn said. Dekalb, Friendly Acre Seed Farms and Pioneer Hybrids have been the major sponsors. Reid Balawder made the design. Ashley Ward cut the design. Corwin Tonn seeded it and Tonn Farms sprayed and applied the fertilizer.

This is a fundraiser for the Preeceville Skating Arena and it is hoped to have the public support this idea.
