Darren Descalchuk deemed top fisherman at derby

Darren Descalchuk of Preeceville won the biggest fish caught at the Nelson Lake ice fishing derby on March 23.

The Endeavour Eagles club sponsored the annual derby.

'"There were 74 holes sold with nine northern pike caught during the derby," said Evan Steppan, organizer. "The weather was great with fishermen enjoying the derby. This was the third year we sponsored the event and will continue this as a yearly family event.”

Prizes for the biggest fish, first fish caught, second and third biggest fish were presented by Michael Yaremchuk, club representative.

Descalchuk caught the largest fish that measured 23 and 3/4 inches and it was also the first fish caught.

Rachel Lozinski caught the second-largest fish which measured 22 inches. Shelby Cook won third for her fish that measured 21 and 1/2 inches.

Tim Olson was the winner of the ice auger draw.

Carol Murray won the 50/50 draw for $375.
