The heavy horse demonstration held during the Preeceville Canada 150 celebration on August 5 brought back memories from the past for many residents.

Judy Johnson was the announcer for the event that featured five sets of horses and drivers participating in demonstrations of ploughing, discing, cutting and raking hay in a field. Grant Peterson provided the land that was utilized in the demonstrations.

Teamsters who participated were: Duncan Arthur of Ketchen with a team of Percheron horses; Glen Zulynaik with a team of Belgians; Twyla Newton and her team of Clydesdales; Tom Rowly with his team of Belgians, all of Yorkton, and Lloyd Smith of Pelly with a team of four Percherons.

"If you enjoy the big horses and want to watch some more, we would like to encourage you to come to Rama during the weekend of August 19 and 20," said Johnson. "The field day has in the past attracted up to 18 teams from Moose Jaw and Saskatoon. There will also be entertainment, bucket draws, a silent auction and a chicken supper on Saturday night.”

The demonstrations will feature ploughing, discing, harrowing, haying, bindering and threshing.
