The Federated Co-op continues to make improvements to make fuel a top priority for consumers. Sixteen new fuel tanks were shipped to the bulk fuel station during the week of January 18. The ground work for the new tanks was done last summer for the project.

The new tanks have the capacity to hold 235,000 litres per tank which increases storage to 1.9 million litres. The old tanks currently hold 90,000 litres per tank. The tanks were made in Tisdale at a special building plant and transported to the site by transport trucks from Co-op. They were put up through the week by two cranes from Mammoet Company from Regina. The new tanks are bottom load compared to the top load with the present tanks.

"The bottom load will cut loading time by two thirds and improve safety to those who are loading trucks with fuel," said Jeff Strand, maintenance person for the bulk plant.

The next step will be to add the maintenance shack, piping and a fence. The tanks are scheduled to be painted later this summer.
