Preeceville High School students acknowledged for achievements

Top academic and athletic students were acknowledged for their achievements at the Preeceville High School awards day on June 16.

Stephanie Johnson and Kelton Novak were presented with the Crossroads Credit Union recognition awards. Doreen Bochniuk made the presentation on behalf of the Credit Union.

Students in Grade 7 who received top academic awards were: Skylar German, English language arts; Eric Prestie, practical and applied art; Todd Pankratz, math; Eli Kashuba, science and social studies; and Dylan Wiwcharuk, physical education.

Students in Grade 8 who received top academic awards were: Morgan McLean, English language arts and practical applied arts; Emily Prestie, math; Claire Giddings, science and social; Willen Paligan, physical education, and Olivia Chornomitz, health and art.

Students in Grade 9 who received top academic awards were: Dana Chopty, English language arts; Kelsey Daschuk, English language arts, math, social and practical applied arts; Braden Mclean, science; Sean Paligan, physical education; Angelina Sorgen, health, and Hailee Delawski, art.

Students in Grade 10 who received top academic awards were: Brie Gardner, English language and arts, social and art; Britney Vewchar, English language and arts and career work experience; Brandon Dyky, math; Stephanie Johnson, science and commercial cooking; Coleman Metherell, wellness, and Jesse Antonichuk, practical and applied arts.

Students in Grade 11 who received top academic awards were: Desrai Englot, English language arts and social; Sydney Giddings, math and science; Shawn Holowachuk, physical education; Alex Christopherson, career work experience; Taylor Braithwaite, visual arts, and Shelby Reynolds, psychology.

The entire Student Representative Council was acknowledged. Cross-country running awards went to: Eli Kashuba, most improved; Todd Pankratz, most dedicated and determined, and Erik Sandager, most dedicated.

Juniors to received awards were: Zachary Sorgen, most dedicated and determined; and Isaiah Maier, most improved.

Football awards went to: Noah Tonn, most valuable player (MVP) offence; Shawn Holowachuk, MVP defense, and Sean Paligan, rookie of the year. Kalum Livingston of Norquay was acknowledged with the lineman award and Dallas Papequash of The Key First Nation was acknowledged with the most dedicated and determined award.

Junior girls’ volleyball awards were presented to: Kelsey Daschuk, most dedicated, and Angelina Sorgen, most improved. For senior girls’ volleyball, the MVP award went to Lexie Young; Brie Gardner, most improved; and Brittany Kashuba received the most dedicated award.

Josiah Sorgen received the senior boys’ volleyball MVP award. Junior girls’ basketball awards were presented to: Emily Prestie, most improved; Makenna Petryshyn, sportsmanship; and Kelsey Daschuk, dedication and leadership award.

For junior boys’ basketball, the MVP award went to Kristen Javelona; Dweight Paligan, rookie of the year; Ryan Young, dedicated player; and Kelton Novak, most improved player.

Senior girls’ basketball awards were presented to: Kelsey Daschuk, rookie of the year; Tasmin Vallevand, sportsmanship; and Alex Christopherson, most dedicated. Senior boys’ basketball awarded were presented to: Austin Stinson, most dedicated; Nick Lingl, MVP; Brandon Dyky, rookie of the year; and Josiah Sorgen, most improved.

For the junior mixed curling awards, the MVP player award went to Jillian Tonn. Todd Pankratz was named the most improved player, and Trevor Geistlinger received the most dedicated player award. The junior boys curling awards went to: James Dodge, most dedicated and determined, and Connor Fincaryk, most improved.

Makenna Petryshyn and Jillian Tonn shared the junior badminton most improved award. Kelsey Daschuk received the MVP award; and Kaylee Walker and Meghan Petryshyn shared the sportsmanship award. The top male track-and-field athlete award was presented to Sean Paligan and the top female track-and-field athlete award was presented to Kelsey Daschuk.

Josiah Sorgen was presented the athlete-of-the-year award. Doug King acknowledged Katelynn Prokop and Shelly King-Kaminsky as they bid farewell to the school.
