During Education Week (October 16 to 20) students and staff at the Preeceville School were acknowledged for all their hard work.

This year, the theme of Education Week focused on “Building Our Future by Learning together.”

The week kicked off with a buddy reading session in which the high school students read to the younger students. It was followed by a nutritional break sponsored by the Student Community Council, Crossroads Credit Union and Home Hardware.

On October 17, the school hosted an author day when Kira Olson, Rene Jakubowski, Roland Larsen, all of Preeceville, and Sigmund Brouwer, writer in residence, all spoke to the students on their published books.

"The purpose of Education Week's author day activity was to show the students that their voices are powerful and waiting to be heard, whether through a children’s story, picture book, poetry, or analytical article, said Leslea Hansen, teacher. There are many forms of writing and many ways to share ideas.

The school hosted an open house with a spaghetti supper on October 19 that showcased the different aspects of the school. The spaghetti supper was sponsored by the School Community Council which made the sauce for the spaghetti using the produce grown in the school garden.

Preeceville School representatives sold clothing and yearbooks, while the Grade 12 class sold raffle tickets during the open house evening.

A fun game of bingo concluded the evening. Families played bingo for the chance to win books to build their libraries at home. The winners of each game chose two books and every child who played chose one book as a door prize.

Student entertainment was provided by Janhia Irlandez, Emma and Kate Covlin, Erik Sandager and Hannah and Olivia Johnson.

On the final day, students had the opportunity to dress up as a favourite book character.
