The Preeceville Wildlife Club will be sponsoring two local youth for the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation (SWF) Youth Conservation Camp.

Lyndon Gawrelitza and Hudsyn Nelson, both of Preeceville will be attending the Hannin Creek Education Facility in August.

"The camp is for youth aged 12 to 15 years old and at the camp they are given hands on learning in a wide range of outdoor activities," said Heather Gawrelitza, one of the organizers. " The camp has been an ongoing success for over 30 years and is located in the Boreal Forest in remote northern Saskatchewan on the shores of Candle Lake.

“We only had two applicants this year which made choosing an applicant easy and we are excited to send both Lyndon Gawrelitza and Hudsyn Nelson to the camp,” stated Heather Gawrelitza. “The boys have helped the Preeceville Wildlife Club with fundraising by selling raffle tickets and helped with the children's games during the fish release party at Lady Lake. Their fundraising has helped to pay their summer camp fees,” she said.

The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation Youth Conservation Camp held at Hannin Creek Education Facility was developed to offer young people the opportunity to learn and experience the great outdoors. The camp has been an on going success for over 30 years and continues to thrive, welcoming a new group of campers each year. The camp gives a hands-on learning opportunity to campers in outdoor activities including archery, canoeing, shooting, trapping, wildlife and plant identification, survival skills, cooking, fisheries studies, and map and compass use, stated the camp’s website.

The Preeceville Wildlife Club is proud to have a winner in the colouring contest at SWF head office in Moose Jaw, as Hallie Petryshyn of Preeceville placed in the top three of the colouring contest.

“This is her second win after she won a couple of years ago when she was in Grade 4,” said Gawrelitza. “The SWF congratulated Hallie and commented that they appreciated the detail and effort in her submission. The fish is not only jumping out of the water but is jumping out of the picture."

Petryshyn was presented with a fishing rod and a Berkley fish kit with tackle and a SWF hat. Gawrelitza made the presentation on June 14.
