Sturgis graduation ceremony held in the park

Sturgis Composite School acknowledged its Grade 12 graduates in a special graduation ceremony held at the Sturgis Park on August 28.

Sturgis Composite School acknowledged its Grade 12 graduates in a special graduation ceremony held at the Sturgis Park on August 28.

The graduating class would have held its normal graduation on May 22 but the COVID-19 pandemic put a hold on any such event.

Graduates were surrounded by family and close friends as they celebrated their achievements at the park.

Members of the 2020 graduation class were: Eden Antoniuk, Zane Bayer, Salem Budd, Hannah Gerbrandt, Elijah Hort, Jewel Howard, Jorden Kardynal, Carter Masley, Kacie Meroniuk, Kale Musey, Shanae Olson, Zanthany Olson, Seth Rayner, Tory Reynolds, Dean Terrenal, Knute Vallevand, Rayanne Westermann and Tyrell Yagelniski.

Graduates Antoniuk, Budd, Vallevand, Yagelniski and Westermann were not able to attend the ceremony.

Kristen Peterson and Kelsey Newman, both teachers at the school, introduced each graduate as they were escorted to the outdoor park ceremony.

'We are both very honored to be introducing each graduate this afternoon," said Peterson.

Graduate Zane Bayer was accompanied by his parents Kipp and Jennifer Bayer.  His future plans are to attend the University of Saskatchewan in the college of Arts and Science. 

Graduate Hannah Gerbrandt was accompanied by her mother Shauna Walters and her father Jeremy Gerbrandt. Her future plans are to attend the University of Regina in the college of Arts and Science with a focus on dance education. Her long term goal is to open her own dance studio.

Jewel Howard was accompanied by her parents Janet and Shaun Howard. Her future plans are to attend the University of Regina through the Parkland College to become a social worker. 

Elijah Hort was accompanied by his parents, Theresa and Jeff. His future plans are to get a government job and retire with full pension to start a business.

Jorden Kardynal was accompanied by his mom and dad, Bev and Patrick. His future plans are to work on construction and to take over the family farm. 

Carter Masley was escorted by his parents Amanda and Kelly Masley. Carter’s future plans are to attend the University of Saskatchewan this fall to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. 
Kacie Meroniuk was accompanied by her father Jason Meroniuk and brother Cody. Her future plans are to attend agribusiness college. 

Kale Musey was escorted by his parents Rhea and Kirby Musey. Kale’s future plan is to get his 1A license this winter and in April he plans to attend school to be a power line technician. 

Shanae Olson was escorted by her parents Carla and Trevor Olson. Her future plans are to attend Briercrest College enrolled in classes towards a Kinesiology degree and will be playing on the women's basketball team.

Zanthany Olson was accompanied by his parents Rhonda and David Olson. His future plans are to work at a welding or body shop and pursue an education in this industry.

Seth Rayner was escorted by his parents Roxane and Loren. Seth attended Sturgis schools from kindergarten to Grade 12. Seth’s future plans are to become a journeyman linesman through a private contract company or through SaskPower.

Tory Reynolds was escorted by her parents Rebel and Todd. Her future plans are to attend the Parkland College in the field of Arts and Science.

Dean Terrenal was escorted by his parents Yolanie and Don. His future plans are to continue working at Rawhides till December and then attend Sask Polytech

For training as a continuing care assistant.

Eloisa Vicente kicked off the rest of the program with the singing of O Canada.

Graduate Kale Musey gave the Thank you to the Queen.

Graduates Carter Masley and Kale Musey were the masters of ceremonies for the program.

Michael Andrusko, accompanied by Peterson and Newman, handed out the graduating scrolls. Andrusko gave a funny commentary on each graduate as the scrolls were handed out.

Graduate Jewel Howard gave an emotional thank you to the teachers replied by Nathan Hrynchyshyn, teacher.

Graduate Hannah Gerbrandt gave the thank you to parents replied by Rhea Musey.

Graduate Carter Masley gave the thank you to the graduates.

Graduates Kacie Meroniuk, Tory Howard and Jewel Howard gave the Remember When.

Brad Cameron was the guest speaker. Cameron had been principal at the Sturgis Composite School for 24 years and taught for 31 years until his retirement in 2019.

Graduate Shanae Olson was the class valedictorian.

Graduates received a variety of awards during the awards portion of the program.

The graduates, accompanied by their escorts, performed a mini grand march prior to the escort and parent dance.
