Sturgis SWF branch pays tribute to best hunters and fishermen

The Sturgis branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation honoured avid hunters and fishermen at the annual banquet and trophy night on April 13 at the Sturgis Community Hall.

The supper menu included: smoked turkey, pork loin, beef roast, mule deer sausage, sweet-and-sour venison meat balls, perogies, mashed potatoes, cabbage rolls, salads and skor and blueberry trifle. Irene’s Catering was responsible for preparing the meal.

Rob Wilcott acknowledged executive members and spoke briefly on the club’s accomplishments throughout the year.

There were bucket raffles, games and silent auction items won throughout the evening.

Daniel Wasylenchuk and Chris Walker presented the awards portion of the evening.

Tyler Bazansky won the men's moose award for his entry that scored 184, which ranked third in the entire province.

Harold Barillo won the Odvin Mathison Memorial award for best Canada Goose, for his entry that weighed 12.6 pounds. Barillo also won the men's brown trout award for his entry that weighed 2.4 pounds.

Alex Barsby won the men's northern pike award for his entry at 24.1 pounds.

Mason Babiuk won the junior men's walleye for his entry that weighed 5.8 pounds.

Avery Masley won the junior women's walleye award for her entry, 4.3 pounds.

Shae Peterson won the junior men's perch award for his entry, 1.2 pounds. Peterson also won the junior men's elk award.

Emily Kalnicki won the junior women's mule deer award for her entry that scored 141 and one eighth. Kalnicki also won the junior women's white-tailed deer award for her entry that scored 143,

Bert Suknasky won the men's mule deer award for his entry that scored 130.

Andrew Chupik won the men's mule deer archery award for his entry that scored 181. Chupik also won the men's white-tailed deer award that scored 160 6/8 and men's bear archery award that scored 19 and 10/16.

Kaiden Masley won the junior men's white-tailed deer award for his entry that scored 134.

Anna Maria Wilcott won the women's white-tailed deer award for her entry that scored 115.

Chris Walker won the men's elk award for his entry that scored 221 3/8.

Brynn Babiuk won the junior women's cow elk award.

A dance concluded the evening with James Williams band providing the entertainment.
