“Ted had been a long-time curler, supporter of curling and was a worker at the rink. He did a lot of volunteering,” said Vern Schick, an organizer of the bonspiel.

A total of 16 two-person teams competed, Schick explained. All the teams played four six-end games receiving a point per end and two points for a win.

In the semifinal, Bob Kolodziejski and Lenard Bazarski played against the team of Ron Hoehn and Bob Roll, while Dennis and Dutchak played Darryl Stevenson and Ernie Gazdewich.

For the final it was the team of Dennis and Dutchak against the team of Hoehn and Roll and Dennis and Dutchak won, receiving a percentage of the entry fees.

All the curlers were Canora residents, aged from nine to 90, Schick said.

Three more bonspiels will be played in Canora this winter: the men’s bonspiel is scheduled from March 8 to 12; the women’s, March 22 to 25, and the mixed wind-up bonspiel, March 29 to April 2.
