On November 9, the Canora Peewee Cobras hosted a five-team preseason hockey tournament at the Canora Civic Centre.

In addition to the hosts, other teams taking part in the action were: Esterhazy, Indian Head, Fort Knox and Balcarres, said Jeff Sznerch, head coach.

“It was exciting to have the Civic Center full, with over 80 hockey players in attendance,” said Sznerch. “One of the goals of the day was to try to get teams from outside our usual league play. It’s nice to have a variety of competition and meet people from new places.”

The timing of the tournament allowed the Cobras to “get some games under our belt” and give the team some time to bond as the season gets into full swing.

Canora played each of the visiting teams once during the tournament.

“We had some very close games,” reported Sznerch. “The Cobras managed to win all of the games in spite of being tested by the competition. We were proud to see the whole team working together and showing grit and depth.”

Sznerch, the coaching staff and the players are looking forward to what’s sure to be an eventful season.

“We have our goals set high and hope that this season we can overcome the challenges that lie before us. We hope the community will join in and cheer us on throughout the season,” Sznerch concluded.
