Sturgis high school students acknowledged for achievements

Numerous students at the Sturgis Composite High School received awards on June 23 to celebrate their accomplishments throughout the school year.

Principal Brad Cameron welcomed the students and thanked teachers and students for a great school year.

Each grade teacher was responsible for presenting certificates and acknowledged each student's participation in academics, athletics and school activities.

Awards for academic improvement were presented to students from grades 6 to 11. They were, respectively: Allison Peterson, Wyatt Anaka, Kacie Meroniuk, Zachary Mitchell, Keilan Dredge and Derek deVries.
Awards for most-improved student’s awards in grade 6 to 11 went to, respectively: Nolan Westermann, Kyla Tomas, Seth Rayner, Mikayla Gregory, Arlee German and Dylan Antoniuk. .

Spirit awards were presented to students who displayed school spirit and took part in school activities. The awards were presented to the following students in grade 6 to 11: Brynn Babiuk, Shae Peterson, Kacie Meroniuk, Sierra Meroniuk, Kaeleigh Folk and Brooke Olson.

Honour roll awards for students who received a minimum 80 per cent average throughout the school year were presented to the following students:

  • Grade 6, Paige Hanson, who had attained a 93.3 per cent average; Camron Secundiak, 92.3 per cent average; Denzel Vargas, 90.3 per cent average; Austin Fedorchuk, 90 per cent; Brynn Babiuk, 89 per cent; Kylie Babiuk and Daniel Mirva each had 88 per cent; Allison Peterson, 87 per cent; Alexis Vidomski, 83 per cent; Keannu Albarracin, 82 per cent and Austin Bartch, 80 per cent.
  • Grade 7, Kyla Tomas, 92.6 per cent; Eloisa Vincente, 92 per cent; Shae Peterson, 90.3 per cent; Tiara Yagelnitski, 89.6 per cent, and Wyatt Anaka, 80 per cent.
  • Grade 8, Shanae Olson, 93.3 per cent; Rayanne Westermann, 93 per cent; Carter Masley, 90.6 per cent; Kacie Meroniuk, 86.6 per cent; Hannah Gerbrandt and Knute Vallevand, 86.3 per cent; Kale Musey, 85.6 per cent; Eden Antoniuk, 85 per cent; Ethan Innes, 84.6 per cent; Seth Rayner, 84.3 per cent; Katie Chernyk, 82 per cent, and Zane Bayer, 80 per cent.
  • Grade 9, Audrey Vargas, 92.3 per cent; Garrett Bazuik, 92 per cent; Sierra Meroniuk, 91.6 per cent; Mikayla Gregory, 88.6 per cent; Kara Pasiechnik, 88.6 per cent; Zachary Mitchell, 85 per cent, and Jalen Bayer, 84 per cent.
  • Grade 10, Cole Kowalchuk, 94 per cent; Peyton Secundiak, 90.5 per cent; Kaeleigh Folk, 90 per cent; Tyler Antoniuk, 87.5 per cent; Quentin Prekaski, 85.5 per cent, and Jamie Messenger and Roberta Kaytor, 80 per cent.
  • Grade 11, Rhianna Olosn, 95.5 per cent; Kristiaan Rayner, 94.5 per cent; Kyle Teron, 93.5 per cent; Allison Sopel, 92.5 per cent; Tessa Rehaluk, 91 per cent; Brooke Olson, 87 per cent, and Dylan Antoniuk, 85 per cent.
  • Grade 12, Kelly Bazuik, 96.4 per cent; Cole Bilanchuk, 90.5 per cent; Danielle Burym, 84.8 per cent; Greg Baron, 82.9 per cent, and Whitney Prekaski, 80.3 per cent.

    The Crossroads Credit Union recognized students Kelly Bazuik, Cole Bilanchuk, Tessa Rehaluk, Tyler Antoniuk, Peyton Secundiak, Seth Rayner, Jalen Bayer, Mikayla Gregory, Eloisa Vincente, Shane Olson, Brynn Babiuk, Shae Peterson and Camron Antoniuk. Doreen Bochniuk made the presentation on behalf of the Crossroads Credit Union.

    The Norquay Legion presented four students with literacy awards in two categories, poster and essay. Tessa Rehaluk and Rhianna Olson received the poster bursary and Nicole Tureski and Dylan Antoniuk received the essay bursary.
