Lacrosse said to be a sport for all ages

The Sturgis Lacrosse team has been practicing for its first games on May 24 against Yorkton. The team features five different age categories: under eight, under 11, under 14, under 16 and under 19.

The team features five different age categories: under eight, under 11, under 14, under 16 and under 19. The under 11 age category has three teams organized as there are numerous players signed up for that age group.

"We have approximately 113 kids with five coaches aided by student helpers," said Kristen Peterson, parent. There are kids signed up from across the region including Sturgis, Preeceville, Norquay, Kamsack, Canora and Invermay schools.

Lacrosse coaches are, Brad Cameron, Conrad Peterson, Craig Folk, Greg Olson and Nicole Korpusik. Student helpers are: Shae Peterson, Jalen Bayer, Garrett Bazuik, Carter Masley, Zane Bayer, Seth Hort, Bo Babiuk, JR Puyos and Jake Huska.

Teams practice every Monday and Wednesday with U8, U11 and U14 from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. and U16 and U19 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

The home tournament will be held June 2 for U8, U11 and U14. U16 and U19 home games were held on May 16, and are scheduled for May 30. The canteen was scheduled to be open for the both home games.
