Members of the Lintlaw Fire Department expanded their knowledge in firefighting December 1, 2 and 3 when they attended a three-day training session on search, rescue, forcible entry and rapid response.

The training instructors were from Everett Training Services of Prince Albert.

"The department continues to expand and upgrade firefighters’ skills to provide professional service to the rural and surrounding areas we serve," said Darrell Gibb, a member.

Members who attended the training included Tyler Anderson, Arliss Johnson, Travis Johnson, Colin Hartl, Dillon Lindholm, Derick Lindholm, Darell Gibb, Trystan Gibb, Brodie Morrow, Chris Randall, Neil Annaseries, Victor Pastor, Jesse Santos, Jonnel Anasaries, Alfonsito Jayway and Decoroso Olfato.

Members unable to attend the training session but have attended previous training sessions included Bruce Gibb, Brent Elmy, Gordon Murrison, Tyler Murrison and Mark George. Mike Alaibay was also unable to attend but joined the other members for supper when he delivered the pizza.

"The members are very hard working, dedicated volunteers who are not often recognized,” Darrell Gibb said. “We attend various fires and motor vehicle accidents in the RM of Hazel Dell, the Village of Lintlaw and our area, which extends to the corner edge of the RMs of Sasman and Kelvington. It is very important that we maintain and keep up with training.”

There are 20 active members with Greg Smith as fire chief and Arlis Johnson as deputy fire chief.

The department has currently received some upgrades that include a new fire truck and a smaller one-ton truck, along with equipment.

The RMs of Hazel Dell, Sasman and Kelvington have entered into a fire co-operative that aids the department in funding for future upgrades on equipment and training.
