Stenen Bonspiel attracts rinks from numerous communities across the region

The annual Stenen Open Bonspiel, which was held from January 27 to February 3 attracted 18 teams. The Joe Yacyshyn rink of Preeceville took first place in the 1st event.

The annual Stenen Open Bonspiel, which was held from January 27 to February 3 attracted 18 teams.

The Joe Yacyshyn rink of Preeceville took first place in the 1st event.  Members of the Yacyshyn rink were: Don Kurlak (skip), Dale Zubko (third), Nick Bodnar (second) and Joe Yacyshyn (lead).

The Terry Dennis rink of Crystal Lake was victorious in the second event, with Dennis (skip), Lorri Dennis (third), Cal Statchuk (second) and Lynda Statchuk (lead.)

The Ken Bazansky foursome of Stenen rode home ice advantage to a first place finish in the third event. Team members were: Bazansky (skip), Garret Baziuk (third), Tom Baziuk (second) and Eileen Baziuk (lead.) 

The bonspiel banquet was held on February 1.

“It was a fun evening which started out with a wonderful roast beef supper, including perogies, cabbage rolls, potatoes, gravy, various types of salads and wonderful desserts,” said Brenda Lisoway, one of the organizers.

“After the meal, the attendees were entertained by the annual Stenen Bonspiel auction.

“The community of Stenen pulled together to once again put on a fantastic event,” concluded Lisoway.
