Sturgis hosted lacrosse provincials with two local teams winning gold

The community of Sturgis hosted the provincial lacrosse tournament with two of the three lacrosse teams claiming gold on June 14 to 16.

The community of Sturgis hosted the provincial lacrosse tournament with two of the three lacrosse teams claiming gold on June 14 to 16.

In the 13U division, lacrosse teams entered included Sturgis, Prince Albert, Regina Purple, Regina White, Saskatoon and Yorkton.

During the tournament Sturgis defeated Prince Albert, Regina White, Saskatoon and Yorkton.

"The only game we lost was against Regina Purple," said Craig Folk, coach. “We dominated the tournament and were the favourite going into it.”

In the semi-finals, Sturgis defeated Saskatoon and overcame Prince Albert in the gold medal match-up for the provincial title.

In the 15U category teams entered included Sturgis, Prince Albert, Kelvington, Saskatoon and Yorkton. Sturgis lost to Prince Albert, tied Saskatoon and went on to defeat Yorkton and Kelvington in the round robin match-up. In the bronze game Sturgis defeated Yorkton.

In the 18U category, teams entered included Sturgis, Prince Albert, Swift Current, Saskatoon, and Yorkton. In the round robin match-up, Sturgis beat Swift Current, Prince Albert and Yorkton but lost to Saskatoon. In the gold medal game for the provincial title Sturgis defeated Saskatoon.
